Maybe you have heard about it, Canonical is trying to build a next-gen smartphone like Formula 1 builds next-gen cars.

For this to happen, they are doing a crowdfund that ends August 21.

On the portal, http://is.gd/UbuntuEdge , you'll find the needed information and the place to join.

You can fund any amount, and for just $ 695, you'll become the proud owner of the Ubuntu Edge!

Spread the word, that's what's needed to reach the goal amount. Thunderclap can be used: https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/3555

Is this spam?  Doesn't look authentic to me.

It's real, but unlikely to happen.

Such pessimism!  Though I'm not quite sure what your dollar will get you?

The url posted looked iffy.  As I had heard they were fundraising through indigogo:

    http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge

    Via:

    http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/

But now I see it's just some weird indigogo iframe.   In the OPs link.  Thought it might be some phishing attempt on first sight.

I though it was spambot at first, but OP did post here before, and this is one of those things that you really, really want to make happen.  Plus, Shuttleworth just issued a call to arms yesterday, asking users to do similar.

Unfortunately, the $32 million goal is probably keeping a lot of people from investing, as it's hard to see this investment as realistic in this eleventh hour.

I was tempted, but in the end I just didn't buy the 720p excuse.  That 300ppi factoid was pretty much made up by Apple based on arbitrary stats.  If it was 1080p that probably would've pushed me over.  After the price increased, well, that was just the end of it.
