There's already a compilation on the Colemak website here:

    https://colemak.com/wiki/index.php?titl … ing_tutors

Perhaps you might want to add other notable curiosities or favourites below.

Include an accompanying overview: features, links, pros and cons.

I somehow missed the whole flappy bird thing, but saw this weird flappy bird mashup today.  It takes flappy bird and combines it with typing (and arguably spelling) practice:

    http://www.mrspeaker.net/dev/game/flappy/

To play, type out the words (listed at the top), each correct keypress flaps the birds wings, keeping him aloft.  Guide the flapping bird through the obstacles.

To succeed you have to master your typing pace (it's not a test of speed; rather control).  Tip: try and hold the words (displayed at the top) in your head.

Beware it's difficult and addictive.  It might be useful for those getting to grips initially with a layout.  I don't think it deserves the moniker of typing tutor - as it's more practice.

It forces you to be quite deliberate in your typing (I wonder if that's good or bad?) I pound a little too heavily at the initial slow speed.

It plays well, but can punish you.  My only grumble is that it feels like  a limited palette of words, but perhaps this changes once you start progressing.

Be careful not to get into too much of a flap.

(My best score is 39, after a beer I scored 1.)

    10 fast fingers

    http://10fastfingers.com/typing-test/

Typing tests and competitions in many languages and the chance to earn flair.

The basic typing test lasts one minute.  You type as much as possible as accurately as possible in that time.  The texts mostly eschew punctuation and capitalisation, and use simple short words.  (You feel artificially faster as a result, but at least you don't get bogged down with fiddly glyphs.)

The competitions are quite nice.  You can create and share these with friends.  A competition exists for 24hrs (not sure if you can vary this?).   In that time, you get one fixed text (random words), in the style of the typing tests.  Each player can practice the same text as many times as they like.   You are competing to see who can type the most in a minute.  Scores are recorded in a table.

It feels as if there is a limited corpus of text for the basic typing tests and competitions.  That and the random order of words makes it quite boring.

Practice mode, allows you to type frequent words (top 1000) and some sample excerpts (text practice).
