I notice that the XPeRT keyboard on Alternative Layouts page is rated BELOW QWERTY, even though it was designed to beat QWERTY. I would guess this was done because XPeRT hates pinkies. But what are your thoughts on this layout? I personally don't think it's all that good. It would be better to have something actually substantial on the pinkies. Also, it is not necessary to move Q. It looks like the only reason Q is moved is so it would spell XPeRT, which I suppose is a good reason from a marketing perspective. And that makes sense, because they are charging people for it. There are all those free layouts out there, and they are charging, so they need a cool name.

Also, they claim to have 100,000 users, while Colemak claims to be the 3rd most popular keyboard (after QWERTY and Dvorak) and it only has 5,000 or so. How is that possible?

They claim many awards and that an "independent" review found that you can achieve a typing speed of 93wpm after a week. They've even managed to make same-finger on XPeRT even higher than QWERTY. One of the keys removed from the keyboard to accommodate the extra E, and you have to pay for it as well. I wouldn't worry too much about what they claim.

They believe that opposite hand keystrokes (ex. th and he hit with opposite hand) is a major speed factor.
They claim XPeRT has 83% percent opposite, Dvorak has 80% and Qwerty has 50%.

Colon key is moved to tilde key, and tilde can be accessed via symbol tables in most applications.
