    There is /etc/conf.d/keymaps file. Find the line starting with keymaps, replace it to "en-latin9". Then reboot.   
    Before

    keymaps="en"

    After 

    keymaps="en-latin9"

    Hi Penguin, you say "reboot" but I suppose this is only for the X server? So you mean 'restart X' ?
