I've been using PKL 0.3 for the last few weeks and the 'extend' key is incredible. For those who don't know about it, you simply hold down the Caps Lock key and you have a new modifier key. If you press it once, you get the usual single backspace. Here is a picture from the PKL download showing the default keys in Extend mode:

Does anyone know if such a thing is possible for Linux/BSD? I'm happy to look into it, but I don't really know where to start.

Edit: I've started looking into it. XKB is a frightening beast!

Sounds great. I see that Backspace is at CapsLock+M in this layout, so having Caps Lock to act like a Backspace if you press it once is not really that important. If you can make the layout work even without this extra feature it would be great.

By the way, does anybody know how I can put a combination of a semicolon and newline/enter on one key in either PKL or XKB?

vVv: it's actually (Colemak) K for backspace. M would be a bit uncomfortable, I think. I've changed a few things compared with the image. I've moved delete one to the right and M , . are now cut, copy and paste. Much easier than X C V.

Sorry, I'm don't know how to insert a character then newline with AHK.
