Someone published a novel a while ago where each chapter only used words containing one of the five vowels. So, the first chapter consists of words containing a but not e, i, o or u; the second chapter consists of words containing e but not a, i, o or u, and so on.

Makes me wonder -- it should be possible to write a novel using only the letters on Colemak's home row. Any thoughts? Punctuation and spaces would, of course, be allowed.

I'm sure that it's possible, but it would require a lot of effort. It's interesting that that novel was written by a poet, because strictly speaking it's not really a work of prose with such a strong restriction placed on it.

It would certainly be easier than writing such a novel on the Colemak home row than on the QWERTY one, as anyone that has practised typing by typing 'J' and 'K' heavy sentences can attest to.

How about a collaborative effort, say a wiki? Anyone up for it? Even if it does end up a tad nonsensical, it would make an interesting publicity stunt.

Shai already started on Genesis; the rest still remains...   ^_^

[42] "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."

[three-and-one-tens-and-one-and-one] "Dad, an it interest thee, I shan't drain this tear; not as I'd do it tho, do as set in thine head.

A novel doesn't seem realistic, but a collaborative effort to for instance translate a bunch of quotes and sayings to homerowish should be fun. That could be done on these forums; maybe Shai could break out a new forum for fun stuff, but more likely it'd be just in a topic here (this one?) for now.

I tried to start on the Gettysburg address.   Man, this is not easy.

Maybe Haiku only using the home row ?

    or a short story.

I've just come across this wiki that I set up on wikidot.com for the purpose. I'd completely forgotten I'd even done it:

Can't believe it's been fallow for over a year!  Anyway, I've helped it along a bit.

Also:  Is it possible to program the word processor to reject non-home letters straightaway?  This will stop intentional or unintentional straying from the rules.

I read your start. Fun!  :)

Maybe you could simply make a homerow-only keyboard layout and use that for the purpose? I wouldn't know about word processor options but I doubt it's possible to do it there.
