I'm trying to make the switch to colemak but I need a litle help modding the layout a bit.

I need ä and ö as I type in finnish but I want to keep the layout consistent with the normal colemak.

I was thinking to go with the same route as my current dvorak layout and add the chars to the key left of the z key.

I added following to the xmodmap file:
keycode  94 =   adiaeresis      odiaeresis          aring             Aring

When I loaded the file I get '-' from the key instead of ä. Any suggestions how to get this working?

I'd add the ä to the VK_102 key (left of your z) and the ö to the \ key, maybe. That way, ä is near a and ö is near o - pretty.

I put my ø on the VK_102 (which is in the middle of my board) and the åæ on the [] keys.

The line you added looks right to me. No idea why it wouldn't be working, except... The '-' is the colemak default (which is useless since you already have that). You weren't adding your line earlier in the remap and keeping the old line in there, were you? Or change one file and then another is actually used?
