    Hello everyone:

I am excited to start learning colemak.  I am suffering from RSI at work, and would like to increase efficiency and minimize effort and strain on my wrists and tendons (I was recently diagnosed with tendonitis).

I downloaded the "colemak.keylayout" file for Mac, and it saved on my desktop.  I dropped it into the Library/Keyboard Layouts folder using Finder.  I then logged out of OS X.  Then I logged back in, went "System Preferences", then "International", and clicked on the "Input Menu" tab.  I then selected Colemak from the list.  Note:  the "US" option was greyed out, so I could not deselect it.  However I could select colemak which is what I did.  I did not see any type of accept or save button, so I closed out my "System Preferences"

Can you guys offer any assistance?  Where did I screw this up?  And will I need to do further work to change caps lock to backspace?  Note - I will want to eventually use this at work, where I have a windows computer, so I will have to learn to redownload it all again.  Hopefully it is easier there.

    Thanks!

okay i just figured it out and typed this message in colemak.  wow.  the o seems to be in a funny spot requiring use of the pinky.  Now I just need to remap the backspace key.  Is that difficult for the novice/basic type computer user?

i guess all i need to do is find a good practice website.  i think i will try keybr.com.

anyone use colemak at home and qwerty at work simultaneously?  i think i can realisitically practice 30 mins a day, unless I find a truly addicting tutorial or game.

That's exactly what I did the first week, until I gained enough confidence (and acceptable wpm) with Colemak.  After that week I switched completely (home+work), and never looked back.

One piece of advice: once you "fully" switched to Colemak, don't try to "use Qwerty for a minute to do something quickly", it will only confuse you and slow you down overall. :-)

just use DoubleCommand to remap the Caps lock key,

    http://doublecommand.sourceforge.net/

Release 1.6.4 adds Caps lock to delete feature for the Colemak keyboard layout.

I don't even have the latest version.  It just works and I don't even think about it.

    Hello Yellowdoyle,

The EXACT same thing happened to me when I tried to install Colmak on my Mac.  What did you do to get it working!!????

    Thanks
