How do I get Colemak worning on Win7?

I think I've installed it properly cause I can see it and select it in that languages window.
But the problem is that I cant use it cause it's still typing in QWERTY even if I have Colemak selected.

    Thanks in advance.

How about using PKL? It works on any Windows version that can run 32-bit programs and only takes up a few KB ram. Instead of the layout per window on Windows default, it does the layout for the whole system so that should make it easier.

https://colemak.com/Windows Download the portable version here

And then create a shortcut of the link in the startup folder which would get it to work when logging in.
Check this thread from back when I needed help with this also: https://forum.colemak.com/viewtopic.php?id=615

Edit: I know the thread mentions Vista, but Win7 and Vista are functionally the same in terms of compatibility

Is there an old install still around? I thought that installs made with MSKLC 1.4 would work on Win7? That's the impression I got from the guy who wrote MSKLC...

I've never seen a problem with Colemak on Win7; it should work the same as it did on XP or Vista. If it's not your default layout, you'll have to press alt-shift or ctrl-shift to select it on a per-application basis. After setting colemak as your default layout, none of your currently-running applications will use the new layout: restarting them or using the layout-switching hotkey (as above) should fix it.

I know tried the ctrl-shift and alt-shift, but no dice.
I'll give that PKL a try.

I installed the beta version from the downloads page then separately changed capslock to backspace using KeyTweak.  That's working for me on Windows 7 HP 64 bit.  With the ordinary version (version 1.0) I was able to install it but it didn't work.  It was listed among the keyboard layouts in the region and language settings but I remember when I clicked the 'preview' button it showed a blank layout, and even when I set it as the default layout (and indeed as the only layout) it still functioned as Qwerty.

The so-called “beta version” works perfectly on Windows 7, I'm using it right now. The only reason it has the beta label is that it doesn't remap Caps Lock, as this isn't possible in Vista/7 using a keyboard layout change. So, you'll have to resort to a registry hack to change Caps Lock.
