It's kinda lonely these days, but It'd be nice if somebody would show up..
Something not right about hanging out on ##dvorak ^_^

I second this - two makes a lonely channel =[
Two's a company, three is a crowd. :-)
Anyone else wants to join us on IRC?
...and four is still less than ##dvorak ...
Come join us, won't you?
I've added a webchat on chat.colemak.com.
Since there aren't too many people chatting at the moment I've decided to put it on the web instead of IRC.
The main advantages over IRC are:
*There is no need to lurk in the channel, because it will display the recent chat history.
*No IRC client is needed, so it would make it more accessible to people who generally don't use IRC.
People who prefer using IRC can still continue to use it if they wish.
UPDATE: chat gone now, use the community Discord instead
It hasn't taken off. :)
I think that thing could be handy whenever someone needs tech assistance with Colemak and someone from the forum is available just then. Is there a way that the "techies" could be notified when their presence in the chat is desired? Short of sending us an email, I mean.

With IRC notifications are easy. ;-)
I've enabled sound notifications by default now. Also, the number of new messages appears in the window title.
Since there aren't that many people in the chat, you can think of it of something similar to the Facebook Wall, where you can leave your message to the world.
The secret to IRC:
install pidgin
make an 'account' with irc.freenode.net using a name you made up
connect using that account to #colemak
The channel does not require registration. IRC was pretty mysterious for me a while back too.
*sigh* Well, I don't have a working backspace key on Ubuntu Hardy, but hey! Now I have a redundant way to chat.
...although the static logs I must admit are a nice touch...
I've changed the chat so it is now a frontend to #colemak on irc.freenode.net , based on Mibbit as suggested by k3ph / ethana2 .
I'm glad to report that the IRC channel has grown significantly, thanks to ethana2 and Iggy_Koopa it's also quite lively :) When I first created it 2 years ago there was no-one.
Chatting is a great way to practice the Colemak keyboard layout and get some real-time advice. Feel free to join our small family.
If nothing else, just come in and type "heh" (without the quotes).
Not sure what it's for, really? If someone has a good question there's the forum for that. Of course, a chat could be a very quick way to get/give a few pointers... but then I'd have to have it on all the time which might be distracting when I need to get work done.
I'm the kind of guy who loves using email but often keeps my mobile phone shut off, as you can imagine. ;)

I have a dedicated machine for IRC and log in remotely.
Basically most of the time I'm logged off so I can stay productive.
Websites/forums are just as distracting. How do I cope with that? Close the browser, or just disable the network/wireless card :))
Up to you to find or eliminate distractions. Thus I find a dedicated chat channel on a specific topic much better than a forum.
but then I'd have to have it on all the time which might be distracting when I need to get work done.
Just run an command line IRC client (such as irssi or weechat) inside of a terminal multiplexer (such as screen or tmux). If you don't want to be distracted, just detach it from your terminal. You can then reattach it later when you want to chat again.
Repeat that in Windish, por favor?
I know that forums are the devil. I'm just more accustomed to fighting that one. (Disclaimer: Didn't say 'defeating', just 'fighting'...) ;)

Windows? Don't really know anything about Windows. I know that irssi runs on Windows, but I'm not sure about the other three. You may have better luck trying to run them in Cygwin.
I personally prefer mIRC when I'm in Windows. XChat works too, but it's icky.
I would just like to say that #colemak is fantastic. I recently entered into the channel (not going in to why, it's a long story...) and was intrigued to try out Colemak. Now I'm a new Colemak convert, and am proud to leave QWERTY behind forever.
I encourage everyone in the Colemak community to give #colemak a try. It's really great!
Hello, George Ausheimer! I'm glad our channel helped you.
Everyone, listen to George. It is highly recommended that you join.
-bump-
Let's get more users in the irc channel. It will definitely be an, um, interesting experience if you haven't been in #colemak yet.
Nooo, it's already too crowded.. Please don't join (^_^) We've got more people than ##dvorak now.
