    KMapper Overwrites My en-US Layout

I really like the idea of remapping backspace to the Caps Lock key but I'm trying to create a custom layout so I can't use the colemak files. KMapper works great until I try to save it to the registry at which point it overrides the default US-en layout. I know that I could create an alternate layout called "original qwerty" or something but I find it really annoying that I can't save the DLLs / registry file or create a new layout with it.

I'd use another program but the other ones I've tried don't have remapping of the Caps Lock key. I'm sure there is a way around this problem, I just can't figure out what it is.

    Thanks!

And you want to ask the Colemak forum a non-Colemak question, rather than the KMapper people a KMapper question?  :)

I was looking but I couldn't find anything like that:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=kmapper
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=kmapper+keyboard
    etc.

I'll use any program that'll do Caps Lock key mappings if someone has a different one.

Portable Keyboard Layout (PKL) works great for me.

Comes with several layouts, including Colemak.  The layout files are easy to edit.

You know what - I think I may have answered your question more or less, long ago:

In the same folder there's a file about ergo remaps. If you want to dispense with KMapper and do the remaps more directly there are some files in there that may give you a good starting point.

Basically, I'd remap the CapsLock key only in the registry, leaving the keys that the layout handle to ... well, to the layout (MSKLC if you wish). It can be remapped per-user or globally.

Ghen's tip is brilliant though. I use PKL myself, for almost every Colemak need (since I also use the Extend mode).
