Hi all - been using colemak for 5 days now (up to 31 wpm, yay), and I think I want to get something a bit more dedicated for its use. Does anyone use any programmable keyboards (see a few on amazon) and do they work on a firmware level so that it works independent of background software, so it's able to work outside of windows? And also allowing it to work within some apps like remote connections (RDP) which I use a lot. Ideally I'd like the keyboard to have a toggle to switch in case someone else needs to use my computer, which I think some of the programmables have (I use pkl now which is nice, alt alt to toggle, but doesn't support RDP).

I poked around the forums here and I'm guessing such a solution doesn't exist :\

There's a topic on the geekhack boards about making such a beast. Not sure if it's finished yet. There are solutions for Dvorak around (e g the QIDO which stands for 'QWERTY In, Dvorak Out' - essentially plugging a recoding unit between the keyboard and the whatever-gets-the-input) but they are expensive and I don't THINK anyone has made a Colemak version yet unfortunately.
