    Hi all,

I self taught myself qwerty when I was younger and switched to Colemak in Jan 2011. I love the layout, but an old problem of mine remains: I'm terrible at using the number row, and even some of the non-alphabetic characters on the right side of the keyboard. Not only are they low frequency but their hand motions are much more technical, so it seems I'm always using a different motion to hit a number row key-- and with very poor accuracy.

The way I see it I can do 2 things

    1) Consciously train myself on each individual keystroke and try to only do it from a neutral position (fingers over home keys before initiating the keystroke)

    2) Follow a typing program for the "proper" way to strike the number row.

#2 sounds more efficient but I'm concerned it may cause even more problems if my whole way of typing is unorthodox/incorrect. For example I use a mini-keyboard and type with my palms on my desk which I know is incorrect, but allows for quick and comfortable typing.

What do you guys think I should do?

    #2 is more efficient.

I am now learning to type the number row with Typing Tutor 7 software.
