Hello,
I am learning Colemak to become a "fast" and "accurate" typist.
I've never really a fast (QWERTY) typer and had RSI nor tendinitis concerns.
However, after I typed a bunch of digrams to practice the bottom row @ about 100 WPM, I started to feel some pain in my hands and fingers.
After some research, I found these videos (http://www.wellbalancedpianist.com/wbpy … pingvideos) and followed the strategy and then the pain was actually gone. I learned that the typing technique in the video was actually based on piano one called the "Taubman Approach " (http://www.wellbalancedpianist.com/bptaubman.htm) and I've seen a lot of RSI ppl rave it.
So, I want to pursue it more but I wonder if it will help to improve my typing speed and accuracy?
Before I learned this technique, my fingers stayed over the home row and moved from row to row with very little movement. I also rested my wrists on the desk in order not only to relieve arm and shoulder discomfort but also to use them to serve as another "home position", to help to find keys.
Plus, while typing fast w/o resting my wrists on the desk, I can't help but let my fingers far above the keys and move up and down a lot, and, even worse, my right pinky curl like this guy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyiVDuhlUoY), which would, I think, cause me some pain in the future.
So, I am afraid that the "Taubman Approach" is not for ppl who want to improve their typing speed and accuracy?
Since, in Colemak, my fingers seem to stay on the home row most of the time, I don't need to concern too much about the pain issues, do I?
So, should I pursue the typing technique? Is it worth for ppl like me?
What do you think?
I'd really appreciate any comments/advice/thoughts you have on this.
Thanx.
