    Hi all,

    * I have been using qwerty for 8 years; tried dvorak for 2 days.
    * This is my first day.
    * To learn the layout, I'm using TypeFaster.
    * I'm using Windows XP Home Edition SP2.
    * It's only 15 wpm today as per TypeFaster.

    For your info, I've typed all this using Colemak layout.

    Today is second day.
    Now the speed is close to 20wpm.
    I feel better in typing some letter combinations.
    Initially I had some frustration.

    My qwerty speed is 55-60 wpm.

    Today I touched 25 wpm.

    Sometimes my pc works in qwerty (while renaming files).

    This morning I tried qwerty. Not much difference in speed though I had more errors.

    Hi!

    I just realized you started your journey one day before I did! My stats:

    * QWERTY for 13 years
    * This is my second day
    * To learn I use KTouch
    * I'm on Gentoo Linux
    * On QWERTY I had 54 wpm

    I went cold turkey yesterday and the first day was pretty frustrating. But today I reached 22 wpm. It is still pretty annoing not being able to type fast but it is getting better. So let's keep up the good learning!

    Hi,

    After three days of struggle(in 25 wpm), I touched 30 wpm.

    But my qwerty speed has come down a lot (from 55 to 45).

    Are you trying to keep Qwerty ?

    I think someone else pointed out that they noticed that their Qwerty speed dropped off some but then eventually bounced back, but they were trying to retain their qwerty skill by using both daily.

    Yes, I would like to keep qwerty until I get it's speed.

    Now, I'm doing 35wpm. From 25 to 30, I spent 3 days. But from 30 to 35 wpm, I spent just only one day. Thanks to KP Typing Tutor. Though it hasn't got lessons for colemak, it has been useful for me to practice many common words.

    Hi,

    I'm very glad to say that I've reached 40wpm today.
    And today is only my 9th day.

    Hi all,

    Today is 12th day, and I could type at 45wpm.
    To test my speed, I've been using Typing Master Typing Tests of 15 min duration.

    Now I've dropped using qwerty, because I've got the confident that I'd catch my qwerty speed soon.

    Great job!!  And how do you feel about it now?  Is typing more comfortable overall?

    Hi all,

    It's been more than 9 months now. Using colemak on a regular basis in Ubuntu 8.04. I'm consistently typing at 60 to 65 with the peak at 70+. Shai, no words to thank you (I will donate some in return).

    @Janel5: In my profession, I would have to type quickly without errors. I think colemak layout has really built me to do just that. I'm feeling *extremely* comfortable using it.

    @boli: Thanks.

    See you all later in other threads.

    Good day!

    Nice to hear from you again, and also to hear that it's going so well. In a longer time than your 9 months' "gestation"  :)  I haven't managed to type that quickly without errors, but I haven't been really persistent about it and I'm certainly better than I ever was at QWERTY now! Every typist is his/her own measuring stick I think. I too am extremely pleased with the feeling of Colemak.

    Accuracy depends a lot on training I think. I got very good accuracy on Dvorak compared with QWERTY after I had trained a lot with it. On Colemak I haven't trained as much and my accuracy isn't as good as it used to be with Dvorak. I attribute that largely to the training - or lack of it in this case.

    Wow, I love this forum. It gives me a certain pride in switching to Colemak, though I am pretty slow with just 3 days (20 WPM). It's hard to make the transition during high school considering the small amount of free time. Though switching cold turkey has improved my learning rate.
