within the next few weeks I hope to finally finally get my loft conversion/home study finished so I will at long last have somewhere to use my Filco mechanical. That will be a happy day indeed. Typing could reach new highs of satisfaction..

Is that the right one? Shai used to live in Israel, and the one in Dublin doesn't seem to have anything keyboardy in his github repos.

finally finally finally got the home office up and running so the filco is back in action

it is quite weird to be typing on it again -  very different to the logitech mush i'm used to at work

and also its  a minila which is a bit different as well

couple of days in though and its already feeling a bit more natural

its noisy as hell -  i love it!

hopefully won't be too challenging

filco speed getting back up to normal - just got a 73 on 10FF with it which is not too far off

big push now for improved accuracy

come to the conclusion that i enjoy typing when its over 98% accurate, below that I find it frustrating

need to work on a smooth flow, and being better at spotting when I need to slow down

Oh, yeah, 98.5% accuracy is smoooooth! But I get annoyed by the constant retyping if I set my Amphetype threshold above 97%.

I'm wondering whether the famous adage by greg lemond applies to typing, i.e. it doesn't get any easier, you just get faster

I dream of getting to a nirvana like state where I rarely make an error

anyone actually achieve this?

or does the fact that you tend to type at the limit of your max speed, always mean that typos are a fact of life?

From watching some of the fastest guys in typeracer, they're still making plenty of errors:

I think when you are going for max speed, its inevitable. If you're at 100% accuracy, you're probably not going at max speed, unless you get that perfect race. It's a tradeoff really. Sacrifice a bit off max speed for better accuracy (and often times your speed will be better anyway from less mistakes). But for absolute max speed, you just blast as fast as possible and accept that you're gonna make errors sometimes, and just hope that you don't

I too prefer a nirvana like state that's error free

Just like playing Clash Royale (fun game, btw!), it's very dependent on my state of mind once I've reached a certain level. I can't always tell whether I'm in the right flow before I start, but some days are rocky and others beautiful. Some days I scrape by at 60 WPM and barely 97% accuracy, others it's a smooth sailing at 75 WPM and 98.5% accuracy. There are times when this tells me that I'm more stressed out than I thought I were. Insightful. :-)

MisterW: That sounds right.

completed amphetype lessons on the 1000 most common words

now applying paretos principle, pulling out the most damaging 200 and generating further lessons from them

all on 60wpm and 98% accuracy

(wow - its seriously hard)

heres my most damaging 200 from the top 1000

Yeah, for your most problematic words I'd recommend a threshold of 55 WPM at 97% accuracy. Then, repeat that test until it's faster and smoother.

well i'm persevering with the 60wpm and 98% accuracy in the spirit of the labours of hercules. I have a feeling i'll get there, but it will be a challenge

i've passed 5 of 33 tests

those 5 tests took 39 attempts

lets not try and extrapolate..

i think i'm right in saying it should get easier as my most damaging words should be at the start and get progressively less so through the lessons?

My observation is that these tests quickly get a lot easier, i.e. the first few are really really hard, but this drops off quickly..

73 last ten average on typeracer

new all time high

rank 87.8% - closing in on the top decile

I wonder if the targeted amphetype training is paying off?

It should. I've been typing a lot of text in Amphetype the last week or so, to drill in the new Curl(DH) mod, and that has certainly paid off big time. Typing is both fun and pleasant and flows quite smoothly, only a short time after yet another layout tweak. Nice! So with focused drills, I suppose the gains will be even greater (albeit at the cost of some training fun...?).

new analysis features in typeracer are quite nice

the word count per section really hits home how errors destroy your wpm

also gives me hope as I can see I'm regularly typing (short sections) > 100 wpm!
