Hi :) I'm a beginner in keyboard layout mods, trying Tarmak-dh (Source Post) to learn Colemak-dh.

I could only find the Tarmak layouts for Mac which are great! but I want to use Colemak-dh eventually so I made the layouts for each step in Tarmak-dh (Mac, ANSI keyboard) and posted it on Github: https://github.com/Caffa/Tarmak-DH-Mac-ANSI along with some wallpapers.

Great! Thanks for the effort. Could I ask you to kindly make such files for ISO keyboards as well, or is that too much to ask?  ( =ʘᆽʘ=)ʃ

Sure, I'll put it on my task list ^__^ Should be done sometime next week. So, ISO keyboards should just be the Tarmak-dh without the Z-mod right? Like the diagrams you have.

By the way, I know that the recommended finger placement is https://colemak.com/Learn but for Colemak-dh + zmod for ANSI keyboard (and like Tarmak-dh zmod progressions) is the recommended finger placement still like: https://forum.colemak.com/topic/731-new … -graphics/

for how do people know which letters should be hit with which fingers, not just the homerow

    Thanks, that's great!  ∩(◕‿◕。)∩~♪

The recommended finger placement may need some explanation for newcomers, so maybe you could add it in your documentation too?

Colemak was designed for the traditional fingering pattern so the middle finger should hit C etc, but that makes the left wrist twisted when reaching down to the bottom row. This leads to ulnar deviation in the lower arm, which is strainful and bad for you. The Angle mod was created to counter this issue so the left wrist can be straightened while keeping the same fingerings. The DH mod uses an Angle mod unless you're on a matrix-type board where such a mod isn't needed nor indeed possible.

Image from colemakmods. Each color corresponds to a finger. On ANSI boards the Z key moves to the old B position instead.

For vanilla Tarmak, you can choose when to learn an Angle mod. You could learn it before you start Tarmak, even, typing QWERTY-Angle for a while. Tarmak-DH, on the other hand, needs the Angle mod in place which by default happens in step 2 as you know. So you could do step 1 of Tarmak-DH with the traditional fingering if you wish, or add an Angle mod to it if you wish. But for step 2 you should use the straight-wrist technique.

See this section of the BigBag: AngleWide, and the Curl part below it.

Thanks. I've been reading your posts and it's actually been a great link to other informative posts too.

Sure I'll add in an eplanation soon. Was thinking about making a video about leaning colemak-dh actually as I was inspired to start changing my keyboard layout by videos on the moonlander and colemak (^__^)/

Update: I've added the ISO keyboard configs on the same repo (https://github.com/Caffa/Tarmak-DH-Mac) for anyone interested in trying Tarmak-dh on a Mac :D

    Nice, thanks!

I see that your links are all to the old BigBag pages. Maybe you'd like to change at least some of your links to the new BigBag?

    https://dreymar.colemak.org/tarmak-intro.html

I'll link to your repo from the new pages. (❁°‿°)

Also, if you want images for the Tarmak-DH-ANSI they can be found in EPKL:

    For instance, this one:
