Every business and even most websites have a slogan/catchphrase

Not sure what that is? Think "I'm Lovin' it"
It's not the name of the business, or even related to the logo, but it still tells you a little about the product, and increases recognizability of the business. It's used in advertising/marketing.

Anyway, I just thought of a great slogan.

Your fingers will thank you!

I thought of it when I was going to post a response to https://forum.colemak.com/viewtopic.php?id=150 valim's last response:

Okay, cool, I managed to stay with colemak! :D

Haven't anyone already taken that one? It sounds so familiar but I may be wrong.

A catchy slogan is a good idea. Lemme think... "Learn it once, enjoy it for life!"?  :)

Another good idea... i can already tell this is going to be a tough decision if it's going to be between the two... I think we need a few more ideas first.

I guess it'd be better to simply drop the "it" for simplicity. So:

Colemak – learn once, enjoy for life!

Those are pretty cool! Drop the "!" at the end though... it makes it look more serious.
something like

Colemak — learn once, enjoy for life...

kinda creates a stronger impression/after-effect.

...unless you happen to think that ellipses are overused and a bit pathetic...

I thought up another: "Colemak - perfection at your fingertips". But it sounds too much like a sales pitch to my ear, so I didn't manage to convince myself.  8)

I know. I've been wringing that idea since the topic came up but nothing notable happened. "Invest a little, save a lot" isn't specific enough and sounds goofy I think. "Spend hours - save"... uhhh... what would you save? It varies, which kills that idea. And saying "save weeks" isn't clear either; how would you save those weeks or months, exactly? We know, but the people meeting the slogan from the outside world will find it confusing.

For the nerdy audience, making slogans of this type is easier. "Colemak - your next lifehack. Install today!" works for me, but not for the general public.

I was thinking about this in the shower, and it occured to me that the real advantage that Colemak has over QWERTY and Dvorak (and all the other layouts that people have made up recently) is the amount thought that has gone in to every key on the entire layout.  QWERTY was never particularly carefully planned out, because it was only competing with handwriting when it was made - there was no touch-typing back then.  Dvorak was more planned out, but it was the first major alternate layout ever, and made a few mistakes that Shai knew about and then corrected.  Dvorak was also never considered as something that people would switch to - it was supposed to replace QWERTY, not coexist with it - and so it has problems with the ZXCV block, punctuation, and rarely used letters like Q and W.  And most of the 'let's make a new keyboard' projects have had less thought put into them than either QWERTY or Dvoark.

So if the strength of Colemak is the careful thought and design, then that's a good place to start from with a slogan.  How about something as simple and elegent as "Better by Design."?

"Designing is thinking, and if you care about design, every detail [...] deserves to be thought about." - John Gruber, Daring Fireball (http://daringfireball.net)

It's a thought. But it'll annoy the Dvorak users I guess - it sounds a bit competitive and aggressive. (Ah well, we may be able to live with that.)

Next up: "Finger clickin' good!"   :D

Invest a little, save a lot

Like the idea, i think i get where you're going. It needs to say something that doesn't just mean TIME. It doesn't even save that much time.

It's a relief on your fingers
It's a more relaxing feeling
Less frustrating
Decreases fatigue
... it's also not designed to be a PAIN IN THE ASS

Stupid ideas:
"Because QWERTY hates you!"
"Do it now!"

"Impress your boss"

... wait...
"Impress your fingers"?

... not impress...
"Reward your fingers"

... not quite...
"Relieve your fingers"

"Have mercy on your fingers!"
HAHA

...hmm...

"You need your fingers for other things too"
... don't like it... not quite what i'm wanting to say...

did you search ""better by design"", with the quotes?
I mean one pair of quotes.
It requires that the phrase is intact in the document. That way you dont get something that is just an article with the words better or design in it.

CLOAK ME

COLEMAK LAYOUT:

the results for "Better by Design" is only 200,000

there is a Betterbydesign.com

but they are in a different field, which means there's a little more leniency. Also, the phrase itself isn't very trademarkable. It seems pretty common usage...
